Arbitrage Opportunities In Sports betting Markets
associate professor Ben R. Marshall, Department of Finance, Banking and Property, Massey University
Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, Vol 49, pg 917-930 (2009) - I examine arbitrage opportunities in internet sports betting markets. Using a unique data set of 77,435 arbitrage possibilities I show that these opportunities span a range of sporting events including Golf, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association Basketball, National Hockey League Hockey, Soccer and Tennis. I show that average arbitrage revenues of 3.35% are available. Relatively low transaction costs and the short time horizon of sports bets allow arbitrageurs to reinvest and earn sizeable annual returns...

how quickly is temporary market inefficiency removed?
Department of Finance, Banking and Property, Massey University
The Board Of The Trustees of the University of Illinois (2009) - I provide evidence on the length of time it takes for arbitrageurs to exploit attractive investment opportunities. A unique data set from the Internet sports betting market allows me to focus on the speed of investor response in an environment that is not affected by the joint hypothesis problem. The market does not instantly converge to an efficient level after mispricing occurs, but the adjustment process is rapid. Arbitrageurs remove many of these opportunities within minutes of them being created and the majority are gone within an hour...

Smart Money Makes the Switch from Real Estate & Property Investments to Bets Which Cannot Lose
London, England - Monday, 18th July 2008 - Monetary changes in the UK housing market is spurring a new movement towards sure thing bets. As housing prices continue to decline, placing investment money into the market is an unstable move. Educated investors are making the wise choice to place their investment money into something a little more secure. That security would be bets that can not be lost.
Recent housing market declines are sending property investors to financial institutions as quickly as possible to pull out investment funds before more drops take place. Knowledgeable investors are moving the property investment funds into a more sure fire winner - gaming. This is quickly becoming the fastest growing investment opportunity available on the internet. The process is simply referred to as sports-arbitrage.
Basically stated, an 'arbitrage' occurs when different bookmakers have overlapping prices for any single event. When this is present, there are several guaranteed bets that can be placed. Ex-city trader Rajeev Shah explains that when an arbitrage occurs all possible event outcomes can be bet on in a manner that will produce financial rewards greater than the financial bet placed on the event. Shah is the author of Sports-Arbitrage - How to Place Riskless Bets and Create Tax-Free Investments.
The mathematical calculations of the process are what allow for the risk-free betting to take place. It is not a blind faith move as one might first think. There are software programs available to assist an investor with making this move. The ArbAlarm software program scans available gaming prices across the globe and produces risk-free betting opportunities. It utilizes the transparent pricing nature of the internet to search for sure fire risk-free bettting opportunities.
The small group of investors making the move is seeing guaranteed returns as high as 12% per month.
An additional incentive to make this investment move comes directly from the UK government. The Treasury department will not tax any investment profits received as a result of sports arbitrage betting. Likewise, there are no income tax or capital gains tax assessments on these profits as well. Without the restrictions of taxes looming over investors' heads, the path is clear for generous risk-free profits.
Britain faces recession 'within months' - Government provides tax-free loophole for homeworkers
London, England - Friday 25th July 2008 - The UK is facing the possibility of a recession taking place within the next 24 months. This comes on the heels of what financial analysts remark to be the weakest financial growth in the UK over the last 15 years.
A major hit to the housing market will take place as a result of the recession. Industry experts warn consumers to expect a 15% drop in housing prices over the course of the year with further falls in the next year. Despite this, inflation concerns will force the bank of England to raise interest rates, leading to higher mortgage rates. A financial move such as this will make for more stringent mortgage lending requirements which will increase the difficulty in consumers obtaining home loans. Inevitably, consumer spending will fall.
Housing market numbers are not the only ones predicted to be hit by the impending recession. The employment market is already starting to contract. Specifically, financial service positions have suffered significant layoffs and, in total, an expected 10,000 to 20,000 jobs within the London's financial industry will come to an end. This will leave employees looking at other options for income.
Employees affected by recession related job losses should consider the rising investment practice of sports arbitrage. According to Rajeev Shah, an ex-City trader, an arbitrage occurs when different bookmakers' prices on the same events overlap. With the aid of computer software, risk-free bets can be placed that guarantee financial returns greater than the financial investment.
Shah is the author of Sports-Arbitrage - How to Place Riskless Bets & Create Tax Free Investments. He says that his Arbalarm computer software conducts mathematical computations that result in risk-free profit margins for sports arbitrage investments. Traders who have made the move from property investing to sports arbitrage are seeing guaranteed financial returns up to 12% per month.
Further incentive to engage in a new career move is provided by the UK Treasury department. There is no tax restrictions placed on profits from sports arbitrage betting. This opens a window of financial opportunity for workers affected by the looming recession.
